How Does AlumiPlate Compare With Other Platings and Coatings? |
|
|
|
|
|
AlumiPlate™ aluminum competes with and must be compared to other coatings such as cadmium, zinc, zinc alloy plating such as zinc nickel, zinc iron, and zinc cobalt; electroless nickel, and electrolytic nickel plating as well as organic coatings. We are compiling a test results database for several criteria for comparison. A subjective summary of those comparisons follows: Corrosion Resistance - Aluminum plating is better than virtually any other practical fastener coating for salt spray corrosion resistance. Research, independent lab testing and customer testing have led us to this conclusion. High Temperature Resistance - Based on a thorough study of the metallurgy of high purity aluminum, we conclude that aluminum plating is able to withstand and retain its beneficial properties to a higher temperature (up to 1,000 F) than virtually any other practical fastener coating except for nickel plate. Testing is underway. Hydrogen Embrittlement - Aluminum plating is a unique solvent-based process and, as such, is inherently less likely to lead to hydrogen embrittlement than virtually any other practical fastener coating. We are in the process of carefully verifying hydrogen embrittlement test results. Independent lab testing and customer testing have led us to this theory. Further testing is ongoing and will continue. |
